So, in case you haven’t noticed, I’m obsessed with my dog.
And I can’t really blame myself, because if you met her, you’d be obsessed with her too.
At the end of April, Maeby turned 2.
Here is Maeby just a couple days after I got her, when she was three months old and only 9 pounds:
Here is Maeby on her first birthday, last April:
I don’t think she liked wearing the hat.
And here she is just a couple days after her second birthday:
On a related note, I made Maeby a birthday cake and she and her best friend Lilo really, really liked it.
1/4 cup peanut butter (I used crunchy)
1/4 cup mashed banana
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 cup honey
1 cup shredded carrots
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
Spray one cake pan with nonstick spray and preheat your oven to 350*F.
Mix together your peanut butter and mashed banana. I put the peanut butter in the microwave for 10 seconds to soften it. Then mix in your egg, vanilla extract, and honey.
In a blender, mix together the above mixture with the shredded carrots.
Return to your mixing bowl and mix in the whole wheat flour and baking soda.
Pour batter into the cake pan (it will be thick and seem kind of dry). Pat it down so it’s level, and bake for 30 minutes or until the sides pull away from the pan and a toothpick comes out clean.
Allow to cool and serve to your dog!
You can refrigerate this recipe for longer storage; mine lasted for a week and probably could’ve lasted longer.
▴▴▴▴▴▴Overall, I’d say Maeby had a quality second birthday. She got to run around our yard with her friend, eat sticks and play with her pet rock, and she got to enjoy cake.
This August will mark two full years since I got her and I can honestly say she has changed my life and improved it more than I ever would’ve expected.
If you’re thinking about getting a dog, I’d encourage you to adopt through a shelter or rescue. There are so many dogs out there that need homes, and even if you’re interested in one specific breed, there are breed-specific rescues in your area! All you have to do is Google around, and check out Petfinder, to find your new best friend.
