There are several hose reel styles on the market. They can be categorized based on their performance, retraction mode, and mounting technique. Retractable hose reels are popular for their stable retractable system. On the other hand, wall-mounted hose reels are equally popular. In addition to wall mounting, there are several different types of techniques for mounting a hose reel.

Hose reel mounting techniques

There are various mounting methods for hose reels. The most common ones are listed below;

1. Ceiling mounted

This is one of the most popular ceiling techniques for hose reels. Its popularity can be attributed to the fact that the method allows for more floor and wall space. This means that you can use the space for other vital tasks. The ceiling mounting technique is prevalent in welding and auto shops. Car washing facilities also use the ceiling mounting method as it allows for easy access to the hose. While the technique is effective, it is also challenging to achieve. It requires special attention because any mistake during the installation process may result in dire consequences if the hose reel falls from its position.

2. Wall-mounted

Next to ceiling mounting, wall mounting technique is also prevalent. Like the former, this technique also opens floor space and does not take a lot of room. More often than not, wall-mounted hose reels are hinged using a locking pin. This element allows you to angle the hose to the application. Wall-mounted hose reels also come with particular mounting features like brackets and plates.

3. Post-mounted

Another technique is the post mounting style. It is in many ways similar to the wall mounting technique. Hose reels are usually mounted on posts when they need to be placed closer to the application. However, this usually depends on their design. Post-mounted hose reels can either be hinged or immovable. Hinged hose reels can be moved, and their angles can be shifted based on the application. On the other hand, immovable hose reels are usually tightly screwed in place.

4. Free-standing

There seems to be a lot of confusion between free-standing and stationary hose reels. Free-standing hose reels are a type of stationary hose reel, but not all stationary hose reels are free-standing. These hose reels are usually permanently located close to the application area. They are typically made from heavy-duty materials like steel, aluminum, and stainless steel. They are also commonly coated for corrosion and rust protection. Free-standing hose reels also come with a robust frame design that can withstand harsh conditions.

5. Mobile mounted

Mobile mounted hose reels are usually installed on a moving device. For instance, they can be mounted on a trailer, cart, truck, or ship. Firefighting hose reels are a great example of mobile-mounted reels. They can be applied in a wide range of locations. They are also often designed to be easily retractable.

Conclusion

Each of the mounting techniques featured above has its benefits and downsides. It is worth mentioning that the hose reel design significantly affects the mounting method. For instance, you cannot use a wall-mounted hose reel as a mobile hose reel because of the design.
